Why Facebook Home bothers me: It destroys any notion of privacy

I am not particularly worried (anymore) by the stuff that Facebook, or other companies for that matter, are trying to get away with. They have done it over and over again and either pulled it off or met with (some) resistance.

No, what worries me is that apparently companies like Facebook, Google and others first have to announce this stuff or even have to implement it, before governments, lawmakers, advocacy groups, etc. seem to start thinking about what the implications of these kinds of applications and services are.

Remove the APPS section on your Facebook start page

I was looking for a way to get rid of the APPS section on the left column of the Facebook start page. And I am happy to say I found a solution. This can be done if you use the Adblock Plus add-on for Firefox or for Google Chrome.

Just add a manual filter with this content:

facebook.com###appsNav

Oh, maybe you want to get rid of the PAGES section as well? Just add this filter:

facebook.com###pagesNav

And remember, the Facebook team has a habit of changing stuff, so no guarantees this will keep working. It did for me, for now. Maybe you like this solution.

Do you have some tips of your own on how to change the way you interact with Facebook? I would love to read about it in the comments below!
